Liner notes

Hi. My name is Shel Holtz. I am Principal of Holtz Communication + Technology, consulting with companies on how to communicate effectively online. I’ve been at PR and organizational communications in one form or another for 30-plus years and I’ve been activley online since around 1988.

I have a blog and I co-host a podcast that are both business focused. This podcast is my first online activity undertaken just for fun.

My introduction to jam bands came in 1973 when I went with some Journalism school friends to UC Santa Barbara for one of Bill Graham’s Day on the Green events, headlined by The Grateful Dead. Over the years, I saw well over 100 shows (which is an insane number to some people but makes me a lightweight in the eyes of others). I have since come to love music by Phish, Umphrey’s McGree, String Cheese Incident, Widespread Panic, Gov’t Mule, Phil Lesh & Friends, Hot Tuna and .moe. I’ve heard smatterings here and there of other bands, like Leftover Salmon.

I’m anxious to get myself exposed to more jamming musicians, but I never seem to find the time to download some music (legally, of course, through etree’s service) and try something new. Starting this podcast — where I can share my discoveries — ought to motivate me to take the time. I hope you enjoy it.
